CHILDREN'S and YOUTH WORK

Children's Church
Children's Church is on Tuesdays at 2.00p.m. for babies and pre-school children with their parent/adult carer. The group provides an early
opportunity to introduce very young children to the life of the church. The group is popular, with some 40 children currently on the register.
Children's Church takes the form of an informal service of action songs, stories and a simple craft activity. There are tea, squash and toys
afterwards, and it all finishes in time to pick up older children from school.
New members are always welcome.

Junior Church
Junior Church (aged approx. 3-11) meets on Sundays, concurrently with the Parish Eucharist, (except the first in the month which is 'all-age'
and the children stay in church for the whole service). Every Sunday there is a creche room for the very young. Other children sing in the
choir or serve at the altar and some older children help with Junior Church. St Werburgh's has adopted the practice of admitting children to
Holy Communion before Confirmation, in accordance with the guidelines issued by the House of Bishops.

'Young Christians at St Werburgh's',
'Young Christians at St Werburgh's' is a group of young people aged 10-16, who meet for Christian learning, fun and fellowship, and there is a
popular annual residential weekend.

Cellar Club
The Cellar Club, for children aged 7-12, meets in the early evening weekly on Thursdays. This is an open group for mainly non-churchgoers
with the emphasis on providing a much needed organised recreational facility in the community in this age group. There is a waiting list for
membership.

Children's Activity Week
There is a one week Children's Summer School with a biblical theme for 80 children in the summer holidays. This is always over-subscribed.

Emmaus - the Way of Faith
'Emmaus' is equally suitable for those who have been church members for many years and those making the first few
steps of discovery about the Christian Faith. Indeed the idea behind the course is of all sorts of people, at different
stages in their relationship to Christianity, walking alongside one another in sharing openly and honestly questions of
faith and doubt.
The Emmaus Programme consists of a 15 session 'Nurture' course, followed by a series of modular 'Growth' courses
of between 4 and 6 sessions. There are currently several 'Emmaus' Groups at St Werburgh's, with some 50-60
members in total.

Other Study Groups
